Anything Goes with Stencils with Craftin Desert Divas!

Hello crafty friends and welcome back!! I'm here to share a couple of projects featuring two ways to use a stencil and embossing paste.  This was the first time I tried either of these techniques and it was so easy and super fun!!

I started by die cutting two panels using the largest scalloped die in the Fancy Frames Die Set out of Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  This paper has become one of my favourites for all ink blending and watercolour techniques.  It isn't quite as heavy weight as your typical watercolour paper but it is bright white, stands up to water well and inks blend beautifully on it.

I chose the new Star Galaxy stencil and three Distress Oxide Inks in the colours Picked Raspberry, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet.  For my first technique, I decided to colour my white Texture Paste with the inks.

Basically, just smoosh some ink onto a slick surface, drop a blob of texture/embossing paste into and mix with a spatula. A plastic knife or old credit card would work as well!  I laid the stencil over the die cut panel and added the paste.  I mixed up all three colours and overlapped them on the stencil.

Looks pretty awful, doesn't it??  When the stencil is pulled off, the result is fantastic!

I did have a couple of areas that I pressed too hard with the spatula which resulted in a couple of "smoothy" areas but I was okay with this :)

For my next background, I decided to add colour to the panel first.  I used the same colours and wasn't too worried about getting a smooth blend.  I added a lot of water splatters to give a bit more interest.

I placed the stencil over top and applied the white texture/embossing paste.

As you can see, these are two completely different looks!

I noticed that because the inks were still wet when I applied the embossing paste to the ink blended background, the white areas started to wick some of the colour. If you think this might bother you, I would recommend waiting for the inks to dry!

I chose the Magical Unicorn set for my images because I thought they work work perfectly with these backgrounds.  I stamped a few images, coloured them with my alcohol markers and fussy cut them out.

I ended up only using the two unicorns but I love that rainbow image!!  I used the unicorn on a cloud image for the coloured embossing paste background.  I embossed the "Make a Wish" sentiment from the same stamp set onto black cardstock using white embossing powder.

I used foam adhesive to adhere both the sentiment and the focal image.

To finish the card off, I used some Clear Wink of Stella on the mane, Glossy Accents on the horn and picked a few of the tiny hearts out of the Lady Bug Sequins pack.

The other background was finished in a similar manner.

I used a combination of liquid glue and foam adhesive to adhere the images and sentiment.

I also used the small cloud die (which was a free with purchase die) to create a puffy place for the unicorn to sit. A bit of glitter pen, Glossy Accents and a few silver sequins complete this card!

Thanks for hanging around to the end of this long and "photo heavy" post!  I appreciate you stopping by today and hope you got inspired to try these easy techniques!!

Hello, crafty friends and welcome back to our last day of inspiration for LDRS!!  And what better way to end the week than to feature LDRS Products!!  I used the Girl Power 1 set today and made a very elegant card with some simple watercoloring.

I took the large corner floral image and stamped it in the Watermark/Emboss Ink and White Embossing Powder.  I used water based markers for my colouring.  Now, can we talk about that sentiment??!  It is beautiful, lovely and so inspiring!!

This card looks like it may be a bit complicated but it came together quickly!

Hello friends and welcome back!!  I hope you've all been enjoying this week's inspiration week for LDRS!! Today we are featuring Polkadoodles products.  These are some of my favourite stamps!! These images are such great fun to colour!

I used the new Shopping Haul stamp set which is ridiculously adorable!!

After the colouring was done, I fussy cut this large image out.  I blended  Dark Wash Jeans ink onto the front of a white card base which worked beautifully!!  I die cut the gorgeous, new Victoria Border from white cardstock and adhered that directly to the card base. This is not only pretty but adds a "ground" for my little shopper.

The LDRS shop has tons of Polkadoodles stamps available! I hope you'll check them out!!

Today we are showing off some fabulous new products designed by the amazing Andrea Gomoll!! If you are new to her designs, you will be very impressed!!

I used the new Let Love Grow Stamp Set for my project today. This is a large cling stamp set with many beautiful images.  I started by colouring the gorgeous girl image with Copic markers and fussy cut her out.

I love this beautiful girl.  I used the heart border stamp from this set and used the Watermark/Emboss Ink Pad to give a subtle stamping effect on the kraft cardbase.  Instead of stamping the sentiment directly on the front of the card, I die cut a small circle on the front flap and stamped the sentiment through it.  A bit of hand drawn stitching detail finishes the circle off.

To jazz things up a little more, I added some colour to some random hearts on the card front and added some Glossy Accents for some shine!

I hope you enjoyed this look at just one of Andreas amazing designs! She has others in the shop so I encourage you to check them out!!

Today it's all about cute critters!!!  LDRS has come out with some adorable stamp and die sets featuring our four legged, furry friends!

I used the new Kitten Caboodle Stamp and Die set for my card today! My passion right now is colouring using Copic markers so of course, that's what I did with this sweet image! I have to mention that I used the new LDRS Raven Hybrid ink to do all my stamping. This is an incredible ink! I DID NOT have to double stamp at all!!

I created a little scene by using papers from the new Pretty Perfect 6X6 Paper Pad. I chose a florals for the "wallpaper" and a polka dot pattern for the "carpet". By leaving a small gap between the two papers, it gives the illusion of a baseboard.

Before adhering my scene panel, I inked up the little ball of yarn image with the new Watermark/Emboss Ink Pad and stamped it repeatedly onto the front of a blue card base.  This gives a subtle background.

After I stamped the sentiment, I traced around it with a pencil to create a bubble shape then went over that with a black marker.  I fussy cut it out and adhered that, and all my images with foam adhesive. A few black, round accents finish this card off!!

Watercoloring "The Ton" Stamps with Colleen Part Two and a WINNER!!!!

Hello crafty friends and welcome back to the second part of a collaboration with Colleen from Maple Syrup Designs!  A couple of weeks ago, we had our first post which featured The Ton stamps and watercolour. Today, we are continuing with this theme!

I would like to mention that Colleen and I have decided to make this a bi-monthly feature!! We will feature products that she carries in her shop and try to have a theme or technique in there as well!!

Okay, let's take a look at the card I created for you today!  The stamp set I chose to watercolour is Born Classy and I also used the co-ordinating dies.  I also chose a different medium to work with and it's also something Colleen sells in her shop!  I used the Catherine Pooler Inks Reinkers and they worked quite lovely!

I picked Bellini, Peppermint Scrub, Black Jack and All That Jazz to begin with but added Icing on the Cake as well.  I used Bristol Smooth Paper  and stamped the images with Versamark Onyx Black Ink.

If I did this card over, I would use watercolour paper as I used a bit more water than I had anticipated and found that the Bristol started to pill slightly.  I was a bit worried about the skin tone but the Bellini ink worked great! I used All That Jazz for the gown and Black Jack for the Purse. Her hair was coloured with Icing on the Cake.

These inks gave a very interesting look on this paper, almost like coloured pencil! I stamped one of the dress detail images in Versamark ink onto her dress and heat embossed it with Silver Embossing Powder.

Now, I tried to catch this as best I could on a photo.  The Versafine Ink was not completely dry so the embossing powder stuck to it.  I could have brushed it off before heating it but I actually liked the added shine!

Before die cutting my images, I stamped the Floral Border Background stamp in a light grey ink onto a white panel cut with the largest die in the Fancy Frames Die Set from Craftin Desert Divas(also available at Maple Syrup Designs and one of my most loved, most used die sets).

I foam mounted the images onto the stamped panel and adhered the scalloped panel onto a light grey card panel.

I stamped the sentiment with the same Versafine Ink and also added a few confetti images that are also in the stamp set.

So this didn't turn out in a traditional watercolour style but I really like it and plan to experiment more with the CP Inks!

I really hope you liked my project today, it was a lot of fun to make!!  NOW, onto the most important part of this post...THE WINNER of the giveaway which is the Large Peony 5 stamp set and dies from the The Ton!

I'm super happy to say that Carol was the lucky commentor on my blog! I will be contacting you soon and thank you for your lovely comment!!

Thank you for stopping in today!  Please stay tuned for our next installment which will be May7th featuring another amazing stamp company, you won't want to miss it :)
